RACING ROUNDUP : Jerold’s Princess Wins Fillies Division of Louisiana Futurity
NEW ORLEANS — Jerold’s Princess let the early leaders duel, then went outside for the stretch run en route to a 1 1/2-length victory in the 2-year-old fillies’ division of Sunday’s $69,590 Louisiana Futurity.
It was Jerold’s Princess’ second consecutive victory for the GB Bowknot Stables.
Ridden by Richard Guidry and trained by C. D. Delahoussaye, Jerold’s Princess was fifth through much of the 6-furlong dash and finished in 1:14 4-5ths. She paid $8.80, $4 and $3.60.
Lance’s Live, the 3-2 favorite, rallied from fourth and paid $3 and $2.80. Classy Bayou showed for $4.20.
Peach of It rallied from off the pace to secure command inside the final eighth of a mile and gallop to a five-length victory in the $51,475 Quick Reward Breeders’ Cup States at Hawthorne Race Course in Chicago.
Peach of It, the only Illinois-registered starter in the seven-entry field of 3-year-old horses, scored her third straight victory.
The winner, a gray 4-year-old daughter of Navajo, was ridden by E. T. Baird, who won Saturday’s Illinois Breeders Futurity aboard Silence At Dawn.
Peach of It, owned by Nicholas J. Balodimas of Barrington, Ill., and Bill Donnelly of DeKalb, Ill., was clocked in 1:43 2-5 over a fast track. She paid $5.60, $3.20, and $3 as the 9-5 favorite.
Beautiful Gold, who went off at 3-1, paid $3.80 and $2.80. Under Oath, also a 3-1 shot, finished third and paid $2.80.
Japan’s Yukio Okabe rode to two second-place finishes Sunday and won the World Super Jockeys Series at Kyoto, Japan. Julie Krone of the United States, the first woman to ride in a major Japanese race, finished fourth with 38 points.
