THOUSAND OAKS : Gunman Flees Paint Store With $1,700
A gunman brandishing a semiautomatic weapon forced employees of a Thousand Oaks store to open a safe and then escaped with $1,700, authorities said Monday.
Three employees of the Standard Brands Paint & Home Decorating Centers were closing the business at 2222 W. Hillcrest Drive at 6 p.m. Sunday when they were confronted by an armed man outside the main entrance, Ventura County Sheriff’s Detective Ernie Mantegna said.
The man, who wore a black ski mask, forced the employees back into the store at gunpoint, authorities said.
He demanded that the assistant manager open the safe and ordered that the money be placed in a bag, they said. He then fled on foot, Mantegna said.
No one was injured and the investigation is continuing, Mantegna said.
