Sniper Fires From Roof, Wounding Girl in Ankle
A sniper fired seven or eight shots at police officers from the roof of an apartment house in Koreatown Friday night, wounding a 12-year-old girl in the ankle and hitting a car, police said.
The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was treated at Childrens Hospital and released, attendants said.
Police were impounding a car in the 700 block of South Normandie Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. when bottles were hurled at them from the roof of a nearby building, Officer Charles Newman said. Then, he said, someone with a gun opened up from the roof of an apartment nearby. One of the shots hit the girl as she waited at the intersection of 8th Street and Normandie Avenue.
Police searched the two apartment houses, but they did not find the gunman.
