Sheriff’s homicide investigators are looking into the death of a year-old Imperial Beach boy after an autopsy showed he died of unexplained injuries.

Manny Castillo of the sheriff’s homicide unit said deputies and other emergency personnel responded Wednesday to a call in the 9600 block of Donax Avenue. Melanie Beck, 30, told them that, when she awoke early that morning she discovered that her son, Kenneth Ray Allen, was not breathing.

The boy was taken to Scripps Chula Vista Hospital, where he died later that day.

The autopsy showed that the child’s death was not accidental. Investigators said Friday that they will question several people who had been in the home.

Beck’s three daughters, ranging in age from 2 to 11, were removed from the home and placed with relatives by Child Protective Services, investigators said.
