Charles V. Tackett; L. A. County Attorney
Charles Vinson Tackett, who worked for the Los Angeles County counsel’s office for 23 years, has died at a Tarzana hospital. He was 54.
A resident of West Hills, Tackett died Saturday of a cerebral hemorrhage, eight hours before his scheduled wedding, said his sister, Norma Meyer.
Born April 10, 1936, in Hollywood, Tackett was raised in Sherman Oaks and graduated from Van Nuys High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and in the mid-1960s graduated from the USC School of Law. Tackett began working for the county in 1967, becoming principal deputy county counsel and a trial lawyer for the general litigation division.
He is survived by his fiance, Rita Herrick Pierce of West Hills; sons Stephen Tackett of Van Nuys and Gregory Tackett of West Los Angeles; parents Wilson V. and Nancy D. Tackett of Sherman Oaks, and sister, Norma Meyer of Studio City.
A funeral was held Monday, with burial at Oakwood Memorial Park, Chatsworth. Pierce Brothers-Praiswater Mortuary in Canoga Park handled the arrangements.
