Germany’s Opposition Party Picks New Leader

BONN — Germany’s opposition Social Democrats, anxious to put their crushing defeat in elections earlier this month behind them, nominated Schleswig-Holstein Premier Bjoern Engholm as their new leader Monday. The party executive chose Engholm as its candidate to replace Chairman Hans-Jochen Vogel at a congress next May, but he is expected to take charge immediately.
