Lloyd Owen Burton; Retired LAPD Detective
Lloyd Owen Burton, a 33-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, has died at his home in Westlake Village. He was 78.
Burton died Sunday of a heart attack, according to a friend.
Born Nov. 27, 1912, in Los Angeles, he joined the LAPD as an officer in the early 1940s and later became a detective. He worked for two years as assistant chief of investigations for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office and retired from the police force with the rank of sergeant in the mid-1970s.
Burton lived in Glendale for several decades before moving to Westlake Village three years ago. He had been active with the Burbank Recreational League and was a member of Van Nuys Masonic Lodge No. 450, International Footprint Assn., Burbank Men’s Club, Al Malaikah Shrine in Los Angeles and Royal Order of Jesters Court No. 84 in Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edna Burton; sons Bobby Burton of La Canada Flintridge and David Burton of Carson City, Nev.; sister Delda Sciurba of Burbank; three grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
A funeral is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills. Burial will follow. Donations can be made in Burton’s name to the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children.
