Tyson Is a Good One, but Not the Greatest
Earl Gustkey, in his boxing column of Jan. 10, asks if there is disagreement with his analysis of the heavyweight division. I disagree with many parts of his theories, but mainly with his choice of Mike Tyson over Joe Louis.
Tyson, a good heavyweight in any era, was beaten by a trial horse. His lack of conditioning was no excuse. A great heavyweight would have and could have handled Buster Douglas without too much trouble.
