Arcadia : Relocation Payments Hiked

To satisfy a new state law, the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency will pay people more money to relocate when the city buys or condemns property for redevelopment projects.

The agency, composed of City Council members, voted unanimously Tuesday to increase payments to relocated apartment tenants and other renters from $4,000 to a maximum of $5,250. Homeowners will be paid a maximum of $22,500, up from $15,000.

Increased payments for moving expenses also were approved by the agency.

For displaced businesses and nonprofit organizations, the maximum payment to search for a replacement site doubled to $1,000. In addition, if business owners expect a considerable loss, they can request moving expenses, or a flat payment ranging from $1,000 to $20,000.

Some businesses may also be entitled to a supplemental payment of up to $10,000 to re-establish.
