VENTURA : Fire Causes Damage to Antique Store
A fire spotted by two Ventura police officers in a downtown antique store Tuesday night caused extensive smoke damage and destroyed three antique chairs before being put out by firefighters, officials said.
The blaze began at 8:53 p.m. in the storefront of Hall Place Antique Market, 457 E. Thompson Blvd., Ventura fire Capt. Michael Vaughan said.
The flames were seen by two police officers who were in the area, Vaughan said. He said they called the Fire Department.
The blaze, which shattered the store’s front window, was extinguished in about three minutes and was contained to the three chairs, but the smoke damage extended throughout the building, Vaughan said.
Traffic was detoured around Thompson Boulevard and California Street during the firefighting and cleanup efforts.
