Data General Corp.: The Westboro, Mass.-based computer firm reported a first-quarter profit of $12.4 million, contrasted with a loss of $20.5 million during the same period a year earlier. Revenue rose 7% to $311.7 million. During the quarter, the company introduced the industry’s lowest-priced workstation and expanded its open-systems line.
