Judge Orders Birth Control for Abusive Mother
I am writing in response to the furor elicited by Tulare County Superior Court Judge Howard R. Broadman’s judicial decree and the incredibly naive, implicitly racist column concerning the Norplant implant written by Faye Wattleton (“Using Birth Control as Coercion,” Commentary, Jan. 13).
Where is it written in the Constitution that a drug-addicted mother has the right to bring drug-addicted children in the world and then just walk out of the hospital, leaving these tiny victims behind to be raised by a series of foster parents at the expense of the taxpaying public?
Who says a woman convicted of felony child abuse can have even more children to victimize and destroy?
As a mother, I decry this abominable lack of maternal responsibility! I want to see it stop in the name of love. There is a societal morality here that clearly overrides any “rights” that these law-breaking individuals may claim.
