For 20 years, the Sheriff’s Department has driven green-and-white squad cars. But now, new Sherifff John Roache wants the colors changed to black and white.
Earlier this week, the Board of Supervisors agreed with Roache, saying the change will save money because former Sheriff John Duffy’s Irish green had to be specially ordered at extra cost.
Sheriff’s Department officials estimate the change will save $250 per vehicle, ranging from the squad cars to the department’s buses and vans.
The change of colors will begin with about 60 vehicles over the next six months. The rest will be changed over the next three to four years.
