About 1,800 gallons of raw sewage spilled into San Diego River early Friday when a blocked sewage line caused a manhole to overflow in the 1500 block of Frazee Road in Mission Valley, a Department of Health Services spokesman said.
Rocks blocking the line were cleared within an hour, but not before the overflow entered a storm drain and ran into the river about 8:30 a.m.
Signs warning of contamination were posted where the spill entered the river and at Dog Beach, where the river enters the ocean.
