ABOUT FACE: A batch of Marines from El Toro and Tustin donned uniforms of a different sort last month in Van Nuys. The troops were part of a 70-Marine contingent who took leave to work in a movie starring Laguna Beach homeowner Bette Midler and James Caan. One gunnery sergeant who wore the wool uniform of the World War II Army Air Corps called the work “very taxing.” . . . Four days of shooting “came to about eight minutes” of the movie, at best.
