Driver, 78, Killed After Car Goes Out of Control
An elderly man driving on a Malibu canyon road early Friday swerved his car, hit a light pole and was killed, authorities said. The 78-year-old San Pedro man was thrown from his car after it left the road, hit the light standard and overturned on Kanan Dume Road, north of Pacific Coast Highway, about 1:30 a.m.
California Highway Patrol Officer Scott MacGregor said another motorist notified authorities.
The man died at Westlake Community Hospital shortly before 3 a.m. His name was being withheld until his family is notified.
