Stranded Crew Rescued From Broken Scaffold
City firefighters Friday rescued two repairmen who were stranded for two hours on a broken scaffold near the top of a 49-story downtown Los Angeles high-rise. The repairmen were using the scaffold to service the window-washing apparatus at 444 S. Flower St. when the scaffold engine apparently burned out, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.
The firefighters had to manually raise the scaffold back up to the roof to free the men. Wells described the repairmen, who were not hurt, as calm when the rescuers finally reached them about 3 p.m.
“They were never in any immediate danger,” Wells said.
