Claremont : Rail Platform Funds OKd
The City Council voted Tuesday to allocate $600,000 in matching funds for a $1.2-million project to improve the platform and parking facilities at its commuter rail stop.
The Claremont project is part of a plan by the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to upgrade 22 stations along the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe rail corridors. The commission has applied for a Caltrans grant to cover half of the cost, with the other half to come from local governments.
Councilman Bill McCready abstained from the vote because he owns property that may be developed as a parking lot for the transit center.
