Man Kills Ex-Girlfriend, Fatally Shoots Himself

A man who shot to death his estranged girlfriend in the unincorporated Athens area turned his gun on himself and died from a single shot to the chest, authorities said Wednesday. Leandes Henderson, 26, shot his 22-year-old former girlfriend after an argument at her apartment in the 1000 block of West 104th Street about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Keisha Carter died at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, Sheriff’s Deputy Britta Rodela said. Henderson fled to the home of his uncle, Stanley Tiyksa, in the 2800 block of Ellendale Place, Rodela said. “As Leandes entered his uncle’s house, he stated he was in real trouble. He went into the uncle’s bedroom, closed the door and shot himself in the chest.” Henderson died about 1:45 a.m. at County-USC Medical Center, Rodela said.
