* Virginia Mae Brown; First Woman on Interstate Commerce Commission
Virginia Mae Brown, 67, the first woman to serve on the federal Interstate Commerce Commission. President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Mrs. Brown to the commission in 1964. She later served as chairwoman before stepping down in 1979. After leaving the commission, Mrs. Brown was president and chairwoman of the board of the Buffalo Bank of Eleanor. For the last seven years, she was chief administrative law judge for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Hearing Appeals in Charleston, W. Va. In Charleston on Sunday of a heart attack.
