PREP BASKETBALL: GIRLS’ PLAYOFFS
Buena 58, Rubidoux 44--The Bulldogs (25-2) won their 12th in a row. They finished the third quarter with a 6-0 run and a 46-36 lead, which Rubidoux could cut to no less than eight points in a Southern Section Division I-A semifinal game at Ventura High.
Renae Austin topped Rubidoux (26-4) with 16 points, 12 in the second half.
Buena will meet Thousand Oaks (27-3) in a 6:30 p.m. game at UC Irvine Friday.
Thousand Oaks 52, Cerritos 48--Michelle Palmisano scored 26 points, including her team’s final four, in a I-A game at Gahr High.
Thousand Oaks tied the score at 35 after three periods. Michelle Wood made her only basket of the game to give Thousand Oaks a 48-44 lead with two minutes remaining.
After Cerritos closed the gap to 48-46, Palmisano hit two free throws with a little over a minute to play, then made a five-foot jump shot with 40 seconds left to make it 52-48.
Torrance Bishop Montgomery 54, Ridgecrest Burroughs 50--Mirlen Martinez hit two free throws and Lily Caballero made another in the final 28 seconds, sealing the win in the II-A game at Trona High.
Martinez finished with a game-high 18 points. Caballero and Tashima Mack each added 12.
Bishop Montgomery (24-5) will face Woodbridge, a 47-44 winner over La Habra, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Cal Poly Pomona.
Erin Funk’s 10 points topped Ridgecrest Burroughs (21-7).
Morro Bay 51, West Hills Chaminade 31--Center Wendy Furlong scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Pirates to a IV-AA victory at San Luis Obispo.
Morro Bay (23-3) will play the Ramona Convent-Santa Ynez winner Friday night at an undetermined site. Chaminade finished 18-10.
The Pirates were in control from the beginning, leading, 26-11, at halftime. Sara Pierce added 12 points for Morro Bay.
Santa Maria St. Joseph’s 82, Bishop 49--Leading 37-28 at halftime, St. Joseph’s outscored Bishop, 23-4, in the third quarter in a IV-A game at Bishop.
Amy McConnell scored seven of her 15 points in the third quarter and Anna McConnell had six of her 21. Amy McConnell also finished with a game-high 19 rebounds.
Michelle Storey topped Bishop (17-6) with 15.
St. Joseph’s will meet Riverside Notre Dame, a 73-58 winner over Western Christian, Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep 52, Big Pine 39--Pauline Hampton’s 18 points paced Rio Hondo Prep (21-3) in a V-A game at Bishop High. Alana Hampton added 10 points and 18 rebounds.
Big Pine faces Hemet Baptist Christian, a 35-25 winner over Bethsemane Baptist, in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. at a site to be determined.
