Viewings Slated for Environmental Art
The Santa Monica Art Tool, the second of 10 environmental art works commissioned for Natural Elements Sculpture Park, is rolling on a monthly basis up and down the stretch of Santa Monica Beach north of the Santa Monica Pier.
Designed by local artist Carl Cheng, the Art Tool has a surface of indentations that imprint, when pulled over the sand, a miniature cityscape of houses, streets, cars, gardens and high-rise buildings representing Los Angeles.
The miniature cityscape, titled “Walk On L.A.,” is two inches high and lasts until the next tide.
The 30-minute “roll-outs” will begin at 9 a.m. on the following dates: March 17, April 14, May 18, June 1, June 16, July 14, Aug. 10 and Sept. 2.
