HUNTINGTON BEACH : Roller-Blade Skating OK for Fund-Raiser
The American Lung Assn. of Orange County has added roller-blade skating to the list of activities at its first annual Walk and Ride for Clean Air, a fund-raising event scheduled for March 23 in Central Park.
American Lung Assn. officials said the new form of roller skating was added because of its growing popularity and because “it offers similar aerobic benefits to running.”
Running, walking and bicycling also are among activities scheduled for the daylong fund-raiser. Participants can choose courses ranging from 1 mile to 50 miles. Courses begin and end in Central Park.
Participants may start their walks, runs, skates or rides between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. The starting point will be at the corner of Slater and Gothard streets.
An environmental health exposition will be held in the park in conjunction with the fund-raiser. Admission to the exposition is free.
Those wishing to take part in the walk, run, cycle or skating activities will be charged a registration fee. The fee for people over 12 is $20 before March 15 and $25 thereafter. For children under 12 the fee is $5 before March 15 and $10 after.
