Murray Mesec; Retired Professor, Coach
Murray Mesec, who taught recreation and coached baseball and football at Glendale College, has died at his La Crescenta home. He was 75.
Mesec died Sunday of complications of congestive heart failure, said his wife, Mary Mesec.
Born in Waukegan, Ill., Mesec served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. In 1952, he came to California, where he taught math and industrial arts at Toll Junior High School in Glendale. In 1956, he transferred to Glendale College, where he taught recreation and leadership in addition to coaching baseball and football. Although Mesec retired in 1985, he taught a golf class part time at the college until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years; sons R. Randall Mesec of La Crescenta and Richard Mesec of Boulder, Colo.; daughter Dale Bonza of Wayne, Pa.; brother John Mesec of Waukegan; and three granddaughters.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, with arrangements handled by Crippen Mortuary in La Crescenta.
Family members are planning to establish a memorial scholarship fund in Mesec’s name at Glendale College.
