The sixth and final defendant in the 1989 rape and beating of a Central Park jogger was sentenced Wednesday to 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 years in prison.

In a plea bargain, Steve Lopez, 17, was sentenced as a juvenile for the mugging of schoolteacher John Loughlin on April 19, 1989.

In two previous trials, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Kevin Richardson, all minors, were convicted of raping and beating the jogger and sentenced to five to 10 years in prison.

Kharey Wise, who was charged as an adult, was convicted of assault, sexual abuse and rioting. He was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.

Lopez had pleaded guilty Jan. 30 to first-degree robbery in the attack on Loughlin, which took place during the hour-long rampage in the park. Lopez admitted that he and others beat Loughlin with a pipe and took his radio.

Lopez had been charged with attempted murder, sodomy and rape of the jogger, an investment banker. She testified in the earlier trials but told prosecutors she did not want to go to court again.
