Chick Hasn’t Spoiled, but Critics Are Rotten

Vic Harris of Altadena (Viewpoint, Mach 2) and R.G. Schingeck of La Puente (Viewpoint March 9) both want to put Chick Hearn in the refrigerator. I think they have been spending too much time during the games going to the refrigerator.

Chick’s detailed call of the game and famous “Chickisms” are a part of the Laker tradition. Consider the alternative “exciting” call on NBC . . . (10-second pause) “Divac underneath” (20-second pause) “Bird from downtown” (10-second pause) “Scott . . . won’t go.”

From those of us who have been listening to Chick on Prime Ticket, Channel 9 and KLAC (and turning down the sound on CBS and now NBC), keep up the good work, Chick!
