COUNTYWIDE : 3 Reelected to Seats in Senior Legislature
Three incumbents who represented Ventura County in the California Senior Legislature have been reelected to their seats, a representative of the Area Agency on Aging said.
The California Senior Legislature is a senior citizens advisory group modeled after the state Legislature. Each October, members meet in the state Capitol for five days to decide on the most pressing issues affecting seniors.
Those issues are then arranged according to their priority, and members lobby state legislators to author bills that will become law.
Joseph Gaynes of Camarillo was reelected to the Senate with 861 votes. His opponents were James Giles of Ventura with 233 votes and J.C. Gills of Port Hueneme with 81 votes.
Maxine Culp of Ventura and M.L. Strohbehn of Ojai ran unopposed for their Assembly seats. Culp received 1,102 votes and Strohbehn had 1,117.
The Senior Legislature was born in 1980 because the regular Legislature was inundated with legislative requests from senior groups throughout the state.
