‘Why Do Critics Love Those Repellent Movies?’
To me both “Lambs” and “GoodFellas” were, in an aesthetic sense, uplifting.
The critic’s role is to provide insight into what a film’s creators are attempting to achieve and an enlightened opinion as to how fully this goal is realized.
These two films, and others that Farber would find repellent, got great reviews because they are great films.
