Diner to Open Next to Seaside Lagoon
Ruby’s Diner, a 1940s-style restaurant popular among beach-goers in Newport Beach and elsewhere along the coast, won permission Tuesday from the Redondo Beach City Council to open a new restaurant next door to the city’s Seaside Lagoon.
The 5-0 decision came over the objections of marina-area homeowners, who complained that the restaurant would block their view, add to congestion, and exacerbate the proliferation of chain restaurants in the area.
Council members, however, cited the family character of the Ruby’s chain and said it would improve the quality of the area.
