Pasadena Symphony Assn. Chooses Executive Director
Wayne Shilkret, general manager of the Hollywood Bowl, has been appointed executive director of the Pasadena Symphony Assn., effective July 1.
Shilkret, 57, will oversee the association’s $800,000 yearly operating budget. The 64-year-old symphony has 85 to 100 members and performs six concerts a year in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Before becoming manager of the Hollywood Bowl, Shilkret was director of performing arts at the Ambassador Foundation in Pasadena from 1976 to 1989. Before that, he worked in marketing and publicity for the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Kennedy Center in Washington.
A Temple City councilwoman and teacher has received an award from the California Teacher’s Assn. for her involvement in politics.
Bobbie McGowan, a third-grade teacher at La Rosa Elementary School, was one of four instructors statewide to receive the Theodore Bass Award, which is given to teachers active in politics.
McGowan has also been chosen to represent California at the National Education Assn.’s Resolutions Assembly in July.
