THOUSAND OAKS : Group Raises Funds for Boy’s Treatment

A group of Thousand Oaks parents are trying to raise money for medical treatment that could save the life of a 10-year-old boy suffering from brain cancer.

Volunteers hope to raise money for the care of Sean Delaney of Newbury Park, who attends Park Oaks Elementary School.

The group will hold a carwash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 420 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., organizer Kathy Milton said.

A local restaurant and a yogurt shop have also agreed to hold a fund-raiser June 17.

Sean, who was diagnosed with brain cancer three years ago, has undergone extensive medical treatment. Although wheelchair-bound and paralyzed on his right side, the youth still attends school and has taught himself to write with his left hand, Milton said.

“He’s an unbelievable little boy,” Milton said.

Sean’s parents are unable to pay the $250,000 cost of his treatment, which involves extensive chemotherapy. Organizers are appealing to insurance companies and to the hospital for donations toward his care, Milton said.

Linda Davis, one of the organizers of the carwash fund-raiser, said parents who know Sean through a local Cub Scout group decided to raise money for his treatment at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

“Doctors are feeling that the only way he’s going to have a fighting chance is to have this treatment,” she said.
