Fountain Valley Converts Nine Walks Into Victory
FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Fountain Valley took advantage of nine walks and 10 hits to defeat Rialto Eisenhower, 11-4, Friday in the first round of the Southern Section 5-A baseball playoffs.
Fountain Valley (23-5) will play Katella (17-10) Tuesday in the second round.
Eisenhower scored twice in the first inning, aided by two Fountain Valley errors (the Barons committed a total of six errors), but the Barons responded with six in the bottom of the first inning. They scored the six runs on two hits and seven walks, three of them with the bases loaded. The Barons added a run in the second, three in the fourth and one in the fifth off four Eisenhower pitchers.
Pitcher Derek Fahs, who went the distance for Fountain Valley, struck out 12 and walked one.
“It would have been a good ballgame if their pitchers could throw strikes,” Fountain Valley Coach Ron La Ruffa said.
