Duarte : Property Tax Increased
The average homeowner will pay an additional $8.95 a year for city landscaping under a property tax increase unanimously approved by the City Council on Tuesday.
The increase will raise the tax for an average single-family home from $49.42 to $58.37. The city’s lighting tax, however, was lowered for most homeowners; the average single family home will now be assessed $22.14 a year, $2.05 less than the previous average charge of $24.19.
The council also changed the landscape tax rate for apartments, condos and other multiple-unit buildings. Property owners must now pay the landscape tax for each unit as opposed to a flat rate for the whole building.
Overall, the tax increase is expected to raise an additional $107,000 in two years, said Don Pruyn, Duarte director of community services.
