Disarmed: Saudi arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi, known for his jet-set lifestyle, was brought down to earth by a New York judge Wednesday who ordered him to pay $750,000 to a tour group for travel bills unpaid since 1986. The judge imposed the penalty by default: Khashoggi hadn’t responded to the tour group’s suit. Khashoggi was unavailable for comment.

Court Ruling: Former Supreme Court Justice William Brennan says “there’s too much damn truth” in statements by one scholar that Justice William O. Douglas’ last years on the High Court were unproductive. Brennan says in the July Playboy that Douglas’ “last 10 years on the court were marked by the slovenliness of his writing and the mistakes that he constantly made.” Reminded that Douglas had a quick mind, Brennan said: “Yes, but it ran away with him.”
Madam Professor: Sydney Biddle Barrows’ next one-night stand will be June 20, when she teaches a short course on how to run an escort service. More than 100 New Yorkers have paid $24 apiece to soak up the wisdom of Barrows, who came to be known as the Mayflower Madam because of her blueblood ancestry and the prostitution service she once ran.
