Nation IN BRIEF : NORTH CAROLINA : Pilot, 7, Completes Cross-Country Trip
A 7-year-old pilot landed at Kill Devil Hills, N.C., after a nine-day cross-country flight that his family claims made him the youngest to fly across the United States. With his flight instructor at his side, Daniel Shanklin of San Antonio touched down at First Flight Airstrip, next to the Wright Brothers Memorial. Daniel, who turns 8 today, took off from San Diego on May 26 in a Cessna 172. The Guinness Book of World Records does not keep age-related flight records. Two 9-year-olds made separate flights in 1988 and 1989 before the National Aeronautics Assn. kept keeping such records.
