California IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : Ban on Cigarette Machines Gains
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The Board of Supervisors has given tentative approval to a law that would ban cigarette vending machines within city limits, except in bars. The board voted 10-0 to prohibit the machines in any area open to minors. Supervisors said keeping cigarettes from minors would help prevent them from smoking. The measure, which had little opposition from the tobacco industry, faces a second reading but is expected to pass. Mayor Art Agnos is expected to sign it.
