Gastineau Puts Down Dukes in Debut
SALEM, Va. — Former New York Jet defensive end Mark Gastineau needed only 12 seconds to knock out Derrick Dukes in Gastineau’s professional boxing debut.
Four seconds into the heavyweight fight, Gastineau got his range with a left jab that grazed Dukes’ nose. Gastineau followed immediately with a solid right cross that knocked his opponent’s head back. Then the former NFL all-pro landed a left hook to the chin that lifted Dukes off the canvas and left him on his back.
Dukes (2-2) didn’t move for several seconds.
“The guy walked into a punch,” referee Allan Rothenburg said of Dukes.
