The Mystique of Zinfandel
My continuing delight with Zinfandel coincides with the publication of a marvelous new book on the subject. “Angel’s Visits” by David Darlington (Henry Holt & Co: $19.95) examines the mystique of Zinfandel, its origins and recent rebirth as a fine wine.
Darlington, a Bay Area writer, focused on two of the state’s best Zinfandel makers, Joel Peterson of Ravenswood and Paul Draper of Ridge. In addition to interviewing dozens of people, Darlington went to work at Ravenswood for a time.
The result is a fascinating read.
