CHP Identifies Victim of Fatal Crash, 2 Injured
FULLERTON — Authorities have identified the driver who was killed and his two passengers who were seriously injured in a two-car collision Tuesday that was caused by a driver heading the wrong way on the Orange Freeway.
Chia Chi (George) Wei, 31, of Chino was killed instantly early Tuesday morning when his Ford Thunderbird collided into a Mercedes-Benz driven by Kathern Hayes of La Verne. Hayes, 30, also died at the scene, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
Wei’s wife, Maxine Beh, 23, was reported in fair condition Wednesday at UCI Medical Center in Orange on Wednesday, CHP Officer Mel Baker said. Ooi Ching Lee, 21, a friend visiting the couple from Malaysia, suffered a broken leg and head injuries and was being treated in the same hospital.
Baker said Hayes was on the wrong side of the Orange Freeway when her car plowed into Wei’s.
