Ventura’s Marquez Reaches Tennis Final

With a victory over an area foe Friday, Mike Marquez of Ventura moved into the final of the 89th Southern California Junior sectional tennis championships at the Los Caballeros Sports Village in Costa Mesa.

Marquez, playing in the 10-year-old singles division, defeated Nicholas Weiss of Tarzana, 6-2, 6-3, in the semifinals.

Marquez will face No. 1-seeded LaGeorge Maudlin of Los Angeles in the finals today at 9:30 a.m. The pair have never before played. Marquez is seeded second.
