OXNARD : Man Shot While Walking on Street
An Oxnard man was shot while walking along a residential street, police said Saturday.
Carlos Martin Monreal, 27, was walking along the 600 block of Meta Street about 10:45 p.m. Friday when a man approached him and shot him in the head, Police Sgt. Frank Porter said.
The bullet grazed Monreal’s skull, a nursing supervisor at St. John’s Regional Medical Center said. He was treated and released. Police do not know the motive for the shooting but are treating it as attempted murder, Porter said.
The victim’s age and the location of the shooting lead police to believe that the incident was not gang-related, Porter said. Monreal is older than most gang members. Meta Street is in a neighborhood of farm-worker families that has little gang activity, he said.
Monreal told investigators he didn’t know his assailant. Police are looking for a heavyset man driving a two-door white car, Porter said.
