Wilson Orders Delay of RTD Strike

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Pete Wilson on Saturday ordered a 60-day cooling-off period to delay a Southern California Rapid Transit District bus drivers’ strike set for today.
Wilson invoked the Lockyer Bill, which allows him to impose a 60-day stay to the planned strike to give both sides a chance to regroup and reach an agreement, said RTD spokesman Greg Davy. Bus drivers rejected a proposed contract and voted to strike at 12:01 a.m. today.
