Alaska Water Pipeline
I read with interest your editorial (“Crisis Contradiction,” June 17) regarding our drought situation, but was disappointed that you did not mention Alaska as a potential source of water for California.
A team of Los Angeles County employees and representatives from Fluor Daniel Inc. recently met with Alaska Gov. Walter J. Hickel in Juneau to discuss the feasibility of an Alaska-to-California freshwater pipeline.
Hickel and I are both enthusiastic and optimistic about this giant public works project. Water is life and the pipeline will mean new life for all Californians.
I believe we should commence building the pipeline without delay and I urge your support of this proposal. The pipeline is a long-term solution to our water crisis and it is an idea whose time has come.
