Nation IN BRIEF : ILLINOIS : Record Bias Case Settlement Expected

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is expected to announce today that it has reached its largest cash settlement ever in a discrimination case, the Washington Post reported. The $66-million award would be shared by 13,000 telephone workers who were denied benefits when they became pregnant. The settlement with AT&T; Technologies Inc., formerly known as Western Electric Co., is scheduled to be made public at a hearing in Chicago, said two individuals with knowledge of the suit. The suit covers employees who worked between 1965 and 1977.
