Gov. Pete Wilson appointed three men to the eight-member State Athletic Commission, replacing three whose terms had expired.
Appointed were Carlos Palomino, 41, former world welterweight champion; Willie Buchanon, 40, a 12-year NFL veteran from Carlsbad; and William Eastman, 50, chief of police of Pleasanton, Calif.
If confirmed by the state Senate, the three would replace commissioners Raoul Silva, Pompeyo Montemayor and Charles Westlund.
Buchanon, who played for the Green Bay Packers and the San Diego Chargers from 1972 to ‘83, owns a San Diego real estate firm. Palomino, who lives in Topanga Canyon, has been an actor since he was the world welterweight champion from 1976 to ’79.
