Women Lifeguards to Defend Title
A contingent of Los Angeles County’s women lifeguards will travel to New York this week to defend their national title in a competition that tests lifeguards from around the county.
The National All-Women championship, hosted by the U.S. Department of the Interior, will be held on Wednesday at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Queens, N.Y.
The nine-member team, drawn from lifeguards at Los Angeles County beaches, will compete against 30 other teams in a variety of physical tests, including running, swimming, and simulated water rescues.
The Los Angeles County team has won the national title for the last two years.
