Suspect in Multiple Robberies Captured After Holdup Attempt
A transient suspected of up to 50 armed robberies in Orange and Los Angeles counties was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of trying to rob a beauty salon with a BB gun.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies followed Thomas Newcomb, 42, for several hours Tuesday after they heard broadcast reports that he had been casing several businesses, Deputy Hal Grant said.
According to authorities, a man entered the Elite Hair Design salon in Cerritos about 10 a.m. and tried to rob the owner.
“The victim began screaming; Newcomb panicked and pushed her down and fled empty-handed,” Grant said.
Deputies arrested the suspect at a business where they believed he was going to make a second robbery attempt, Grant said.
