Gang Member Gets Life for Murder
A Compton gang member was sentenced this week to life in prison for murdering an Air Force enlisted man who had whistled at his girlfriend outside the South Bay Bowl in Redondo Beach last year.
Rickey Moore, 19, was convicted in June by a Torrance jury of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Daryl J. Webb, 20, outside the bowling alley on Sept. 19. Moore was also sentenced on three counts of attempted murder.
Webb and three friends, who left the bowling alley shortly before midnight, were sitting at a stoplight near Hawthorne and Artesia boulevards when Moore and his girlfriend pulled up next to them. Moore fired three shots into the car from a 38-caliber handgun, striking Webb once in the chest, according to trial testimony.
Webb, who had a 1-year-old son at the time, died shortly afterward.
Moore was arrested three weeks after the shooting when television viewers saw a segment on the killing. Webb’s friends also identified Moore as the gunman.
Moore’s attorney, who has insisted that jurors convicted the wrong man, has filed an appeal seeking a new trial.
