Rangers Rout Bellingham, 14-4, Move to 2nd Round
Sean Luft, Steve Savage and Doug Latta each drove in three runs as the Valley Rangers defeated Bellingham (Wash.), 14-4, in a first-round game of the Grand Forks (British Columbia) International baseball tournament on Friday.
The Rangers will play Portland tonight.
Luft, the designated-hitter, was three for three with a solo home run and a double. First baseman Savage was two for two with a three-run home run. He also walked twice and scored four runs.
Latta had a three-run double in the game that was called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Steve Dempsey was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and four runs in four innings. Dempsey walked two and struck out three.
