Girls’ Basketball Coach at Estancia Takes Stanford Job
Lisa McNamee, the girls’ basketball coach at Estancia High School the past six seasons, says she has accepted a position as a volunteer assistant coach at Stanford starting Oct. 1.
“This is just a fantastic opportunity to work with one of the top programs in the country,” said McNamee, The Times’ girls’ basketball coach of the year in 1991.
McNamee, 29, guided Estancia to a 25-2 record and the Pacific Coast League title last season. The Eagles also made it to the Southern Section Division III-AA semifinals, where they lost to Lompoc, 65-55. McNamee had a 95-51 record at Estancia.
The former guard at San Diego State said she turned down a part-time assistant job at UC Irvine to take the Stanford position.
Stanford Coach Tara VanDerveer said the university was “very fortunate to have someone of her (McNamee’s) background. . . . We are very excited she’s going to be working with our team.”
